tafo tafoThe Chief Imam of Tafo Zongo, Sheikh Abdallah Faisal, has denied media reports suggesting that he was declared wanted in connection with the recent unrest at Tafo.

Media reports suggested that the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) had ordered that the Chief Imam of Tafo should be arrested for his alleged complicit in the clash last Wednesday which led to the death of one person and several property destroyed.

But Speaking in an interview with Imam Faisal said he was shocked to hear such news, describing it as outrageous.

“I received several calls yesterday afternoon enquiring about my alleged arrest and I was surprised. Even people from outside as well as some radio stations in Accra also called to ascertain the veracity of the information and I told them it was not true,” He said.

Sheikh Faisal explained that he spent the whole of yesterday engaging leadership of the Muslim community on how to ensure lasting peace in the Tafo community, expressing the optimism that the comprehensive consultations undertaken by the various stakeholders would help address all bottlenecks and help restore peace.

A boundary dispute at the Tafo cemetery resulted in a clash between youth groups in Zongo and the Ashanti community last Wednesday after some artisans loyal to the traditional leader of Tafo pulled down a fence wall constructed by members of the Concerned Muslim Youth Association to protect a portion of the cemetery from encroachment.

The incident subsequently led to the imposition of dusk-to-dawn curfew in Tafo, amidst the presence of heavily armed combined security made up of military and police personnel.

The Tafo Chief therefore cautioned the media to be circumspect in their reportage, adding that any false reportage has the tendency to escalate the already volatile situation.

Meanwhile, investigations by indicate that it was rather the leader of the Chokosi Community, a minority tribe in Tafo, Mallam Rashid, who was picked up from his house by the security personnel on suspicion that he was allegedly involved in the violent act, a claim his household vehemently denied.

In shaa Allah will be updating its readers in the event of any new development.
